3 Tips to Transition from Offseason to Game Speed
One of the biggest mistakes players make heading into tryouts and the season is trying to flip a switch overnight. Performance is not built in a day. It is built through a smart and intentional transition. If you want to feel strong explosive and confident when you put the cleats on your preparation needs to reflect that.
1. Build Up Don’t Jump In
The first thing you need to make sure of is that you are building up to the season and not jumping straight into it. Avoid diving right back into 200 swings in the cage or 75 pitch bullpens. That approach increases injury risk and leads to burnout fast. Instead ease your way in. Create a plan that gradually increases volume and intensity so your body can adapt and be ready when it matters most.
2. Shift Your Training with Purpose
This is not a cold turkey transition from offseason to tryout season. Your lifting and training should evolve as well. Start lowering your rep ranges in the gym and choose a week to target maxing your lifts. After that adjust your sets and reps to allow your body to reset and refocus on performance. The goal is not to peak in the weight room. It is to be explosive durable and ready to compete on the field.
3. Train for Performance Not Appearance
Remember why you train. We lift in the weight room run sprints and train in the gym so we can perform when we put the cleats on not to look good in the mirror. Performance is the priority and lifting plays a key role in supporting that throughout the season. When your training aligns with that purpose your confidence and consistency will follow.
