The recruiting process can feel overwhelming, but with the right approach, you can stand out and catch the attention of college coaches. Below are some key strategies every aspiring athlete should focus on.

Recruit the Recruiter

Many athletes wait for coaches to come to them, but the truth is, college programs have limited resources. With roster sizes now set at 34 players for Division I schools, every single spot is extremely valuable.Instead of waiting, take ownership of your story. Create highlight videos, share your stats, and send professional emails to coaches. Put yourself on their radar early and often. The more proactive you are, the greater your chances of being remembered when roster decisions are made.

Know Your Play Style

Every coach has a preferred system and philosophy. Some value speed and small ball, while others emphasize power hitting or lockdown defense. Before you reach out to a program, study how they play.Ask yourself:

Does my style fit their system?
Can I see myself thriving in their culture?

Building connections does not happen overnight. Even though NCAA rules prevent coaches from directly contacting athletes until August 1st of their junior year, you can still interact with them on social media.Follow their accounts, like and comment on posts, and show genuine interest in their program. This builds familiarity so when the time comes for official communication, you are already on their radar.
