Showcases can make or break your recruiting journey. With dozens and sometimes hundreds of athletes on the field at once, the question becomes simple: How do you separate yourself from everybody else? These three proven strategies will help you make a real impression on coaches before, during, and after the event.
1. Speak Up Early and Often
One of the easiest ways to get noticed has nothing to do with your swing, arm strength, or 60-time, it’s your presence. When you arrive, introduce yourself to the coaches, shake hands, and make eye contact. Once drills begin, don’t be silent. Ask questions, give feedback, and show coaches you’re engaged. Athletes who communicate with intention stand out as leaders and leaders get remembered.
2. Connect With the Coaches Before You Show Up
Don’t wait until the showcase to get on a coach’s radar. Send an email, tweet, or text to let them know you’ll be attending. When a coach arrives already knowing your name and position, you’ve won before you’ve taken your first rep. That simple step puts you in the small percentage of players who treat recruiting like a business because it is.
3. Dress for Success (Literally)
You’re not just showcasing your skills you’re showcasing your professionalism. Clean your pants, wash your cleats, bleach your hat if needed. A crisp, intentional appearance tells coaches what they can expect from you every day not just when eyes are on you. If you take pride in your uniform, coaches assume you’ll take pride in your development, too.
Final Word
Showcases are not just talent evaluations they’re character and behavior evaluations, too. If you learn something from this, share it with a player preparing for their first (or next) showcase. Someone out there needs it.
